MOVIE PREVIEW REELS
Movie preview reels were issued by View-Master® in the early 1950's to promote the release of several 3-D and "flat" movies. The movie companies allowed View-Master® photographers on the filming sets. National Screen Service distributed the reels and a special lighted lobby display viewing cabinet (made of painted sheet metal) allowing movie-goers to preview the film with realistic 3-D pictures.

*The "Creature from the Black Lagoon" reel may not exist. The View-Master® Theatrical Lobby Display was featured in the movie "presskit" sent to promote the film at theatres but no "Creature" reel has surfaced. The reels for "Beneath the 12 Mile Reef" and "The Robe" were only made as "test reels" and were never sent to theatres. The View-Master® Movie Preview Reels were also issued on sets of 14 high quality 35mm 2x2 slides by 3-D Enterprises.
Send e-mail if you have any of these items for sale or trade!
Test reels or "proof reels" are made prior to a production run for every View-Master® reel. Test reels are made to see what the final product will look like before going into full production. Since some test reels contain images that never made it to the final stage, all test reels are desireable. Usually only 12 to 36 test reels are made for each title making the test reels very scarce.
For many years, the View-Master® plant in Portland, Oregon gave away a sample reel to people who visited the assembly plant. Promotional reels were also produced for several Portland events as giveaways.

TOY STORY PROMO REELS
These two reels were issued with "flat" non 3-D images prior to the release of the regular Toy Story 3-reel blister packet.
It is believed only 100 of these reels were produced for Disney
as an "in house" promotional item for selected people involved in making the film.
Although reels A and B exist in a white envelope it is also believed a Toy Story Box was produced for delivery to Disney.
Believed to be yellow in color, the deluxe box reportedly was imprinted with images from the film.
No copyright date. Black ink. No reel issue numbers except view numbers A1-A7 and B1-B7.
