War of the Worlds 3-D Storybook created with 2-D to 3-D conversion

War of the Worlds 3-D conversion by Media3D

In 2012, Media 3D created a series of 99 anaglyphic 3-D photo gallery storybook of the 1953 sci-fi classic War of the Worlds on their Facebook pages. According to Media 3D, it took six months to do the 2-D to 3-D conversions. There are many outstanding conversions in the project. To see the entire group of photos visit the War of the Worlds Facebook gallery.

Stereoscopic Displays and Applications 2014 Conference Wrap-Up

SD&A logoA comprehensive summary of the 2014 Stereoscopic Displays and Applications Conference is now available online.

By now, all attendees should have received their conference proceedings. For those who did not attend, Proceedings options are available here.

Videos of selected conference sessions are very close to release, and we will let you know when they are available.

More than 80 photos from the conference (sorry 2-D only) have been uploaded to Flickr. Each photo’s embedded description carries a credit and caption. The photo album may be viewed as an ordered slideshow, and you can turn on “Show info” to overlay each photo with its description. Mobile device users may find the dedicated Flickr app works better than the web version. An app is available for iOS and Android platforms.

Thumbnails from the 3-D Theatre session of each of the more than 40 entries as well as credits are also available for viewing. In addition a few of the SD&A 2014 photos referenced above illustrate the promotional flyer and audience at this well-attended session.

3-DIY Open Screen sponsored by The LA 3-D Club is coming on Aug. 17

On Sunday, Aug. 17, the LA 3-D Club will hold it’s quarterly “3-DIY Open Screen”. The LA 3-D Club invites you to bring your own stereoscopic video on hard drive, flash drive or optical drive to add to the potluck of 3-D content. They are able to play many file based formats – avi, wmv, xvid, mov, h264, Proshow exe, etc., and most 3-D formats – parallel, cross-view, over/under, L/R dual streams, etc. at resolutions up to 1080p HD (with some bandwith limitations).

In addition they have the capability to play Blu-ray discs and DCI compliant digital cinema packages (DCPs).
Note: For DCP screening email 3D@LA3DCLUB in advance to make arrangements for ingesting files. Caveat – while they will do their best to play all content they receive, they make no guarantees, as there are so many file variables to deal with. Content is shown on a “first come, first served” basis, time permitting (sign in at the theatre).

$5 at the door for current LA3DClub members
$10 at the door for non-members (admission is waived with USC Student ID)

Current LA 3-D club members who bring new content to screen get in free. (Content must not have screened at a prior LA 3-D Club event).

The 3-D Open Screen is at 2 p.m. on Aug. 17, 2014 at the Downtown Independent Theatre at 251 S. Main St. in Los Angeles, California
