Chien Tan was a real eye-opening experience. I had grown up in rural Missouri, so all throughout my youth, I had been the only Chinese kid my age that I knew. Heck, I was the only minority my age that I knew. It was nice to go somewhere where there were other Chinese kids around.
It was interesting to be with kids from all over the world. There were Japan, France, Italy, Switzerand, Austria, Singapore, Canada and others not important enough for me to remember. And I think for a lot of people, spending the time in a foreign country made them realize that it would be a real shame to lose their culture and language.
