BRIDGETON LION HONORED |
|---|
It always gives you a good feeling when, unexpectedly, you discover a fellow Lion is being honored for things done as a Lion or in the spirit of Lionism. While reading the program for the Missouri Park and Recreation Association meeting February 26th for information about the Citation Award received by the Rolla Lions Club, I came upon the following information concerning another Citation Award winner."Wayne Sheets has served as a member of the Bridgeton Parks and Recreation Board from 1991-95 and as Board Chairman from 1995-97. Wayne is an active leader and vocal supporter of parks and recreation in the Bridgeton Community. He has represented the board during citizen focus groups, has worked closely with the professional staff on planning issues, and has been a frequent volunteer at department-sponsored activities and special events. As a member and past president of the local Lions Club, Wayne has inspired and organized adult volunteers within the club to assist the department's Teen Council. Upon expiration of his term on the Parks and Recreation Board in June 1997, Mr. Sheets accepted the leadership of the Bridgeton 2000 Ad Hoc Committee. This committee was created to promote the « cent sales tax proposition for local parks and storm water control funding. Mr. Sheets led a dedicated group of individuals in a well-organized campaign to, in his own words, "tell and sell parks and recreation and storm water control to the residents of Bridgeton." Wayne made countless presentations to civic groups and assisted in conducting four city-wide town hall meetings. Mr. Sheets' ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for the residents of Bridgeton is self evident to anyone who has had an opportunity to work with him, talk to him, or see him swing into action. He is truly a solid citizen and role model for the residents of Bridgeton and a friend to parks and recreation everywhere." Lion Sheets has also served as the President of Lions Business Opportunities for Missouri Blind in recent years. Congratulations Lion Wayne and keep up the good work.
