USED EYEGLASSES COLLECTION THE CAPE EVENING LIONS CLUB WAY

The Cape Girardeau Evening Lions Club had a "Lions Looking for Lenses" campaign. This was in conjunction with the Cape Girardeau Post Office.

Residents were asked to put their old eyeglasses and hearing aids in their mail boxes the week of October 25-31. Mail carriers picked up 1,420 pair of glasses and 4 hearing aids.

Cape members took those eyeglasses, along with others they had collected

locally, to the 26D district meeting at Wappapello on November 1. They were then transferred to a van which took them to MLERF in Columbia.

Cape Evening Club Members hope to make this campaign an annual event.

The club has also acquired some old mail drop boxes, which they will paint and place at strategic points in the city for collection of eyeglasses.
