DIRECTOR GARRETT RECEIVES DALSTROM AWARD

International Director Dr. Dwayne Garrett and Lion Lolly Horn received Dalstrom Awards. The Jonesboro (AR) University Heights Lions Club presented the two honorees with Mid-South's highest award. Pictured above are Lion Mark Poe, Past President of the Jonesboro club and Secretary of Mid-South; Dr. Dwayne Garrett, ID; Lion Lolly Horn, a member of the Conway AR Evening club and a Mid-South Area Director; and Lion Brad Baker, a VP of the Jonesboro club and Executive Director of Mid-South.

International Director Dr. Dwayne Garrett of Wentzville was the special guest of the Mid-South Lions Sight and Hearing Service at the organization's annual meeting June 13-15 in Memphis. Director Garrett and his wife Jeanette were treated to a comprehensive tour of the medical facilities in Memphis including the sight clinic, operating rooms, temporal bone laboratory in the Methodist Hospital, and the pediatric facilities in Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. Dr. Barrett Haik, Chief of Ophthalmology at the University of Tennessee Medical School led the tour and then accompanied the Garrett's to the "Give the Gifts V" Gala

and Auction. Director Garrett made the evening by purchasing a set of collectible duck calls, and then made a further contribution by offering his own tie to the highest bidder (the tie sold for $200). After being introduced by PID Freddie Joyce of Searcy, Arkansas, Dr. Garrett inspired the Lions with his presentation during the luncheon on Saturday. He was completely surprised when he was presented Mid-South's highest award, the Edward Dalstrom Distinguished Service Award, by the Jonesboro (AR) University Heights Lions Club.
