Ft. Leonard Wood Lions Club Honored

The Fort Leonard Wood Lions Club was recently recognized by Major General Clair Gill, post commander, for their dedicated and sustained support to the community. He awarded the Fort Leonard Wood Lions Club with a certificate of appreciation for their continued support of the Fort Leonard Wood community and the Missouri Special Olympics held here in May. The local Lions Club helped provide games, encouragement and support for the athletes. Major General Clair Gill is shown presenting the certificate to Lion Vernon Allen, President of the Fort Leonard Wood Lions Club.

The Lions Club also received a letter of appreciation from the Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation in Columbia, MO, for donating eyeglasses to be used throughout the world in helping provide sight for the needy.

The club was organized in January 1966 and was the first to be organized on a military installation. After more than 31 years of service to the military and civilian members of the Fort Leonard Wood community, the Lions Club continues to hold the distinction of being the first, and one of a very few, Lions Clubs located on a military installation.
