A MILE OF PENNIES

Several years ago, Bob Young suggested to his fellow Fayette Lions to contribute a "Mile of Pennies" to the Missouri Lion's Eye Research Foundation. This would be accomplished by each Lion cleaning their pockets of pennies at each meeting. There are 16 pennies per foot, and 84,800 in a mile amounting to $844.80. To speed the project along, tail twister receipts were added to the fund. Fayette's only remaining charter member, Julius Johnmeyer, contributed the last $50.00 worth of pennies. The wheelbarrow load of pennies requiring 3 men to move was presented to Executive Director Ron Walkenbach.

Fayette Lions are currently working on a mile of pennies for the Mid-South Lions Sight and Hearing Service.
