A THANK YOU IN VERSE

The following poem was written by Charlotte Thornsbery, a young blind lady from the Kansas City Area. When the Lions discovered the need they sent her to the Lions World Services for the Blind (LWSB) in Little Rock where Charlotte began turning her life around. She wrote this poem for the 1997 District 26-G Lions Convention.

LIONS GIFT

I gave my family all that I could,
but they could never accept it as enough;
they never would.

Then my Lord spoke from within
saying, "Child, your best is enough;
it always has been.

Though my emotions were frayed and taut,
faith led me to Lions World,
for its training I did want.

I feared instructors to be cruel and demanding,
my past held lack of kindness
or gentle understanding.

Many valuable lessons were taught,
as confidence and independence
my instructors sought.

My future dawns wondrous bright,
as I continue in faith,
Thy Holy light.

I wish to thank my Lord and you,
for all you are doing for me,
and for the many others, too.
