Project Paris-The Lindbergh High School Spirit of St. Louis Marching Band received a $5000
sponsorship from the Concord Village Lions Club Community Betterment Services Foundation.
The United States Department of Commerce has invited the band to perform at the opening of
the U.S. Pavilion during the Paris Air Show in LeBourget, France this June. During the course
of the week long air show the band will be representing St. Louis at the celebration of the 70th
anniversary of the historic flight of the school's name sake, Charles A. Lindbergh. $250,000 was
the amount needed to be raised for the band to participate, 50% by the students and their
families, and the balance by sponsorship. The Concord Village Lions President Vernon Elze
(center) presented the clubs sponsorship to band member Matt Sears (second from right). Also
present at the presentation were Lions Dr. Richard Krewinghaus member of the Lions foundation
committee (far right), Superintendent of Schools James R. Sandfort (far left), and band director
Bob Spiegelman (second from left).
The Concord Village Lions Club Community Betterment Services Foundation made a
contribution of $2000 to Boys and Girls Town of Missouri 1997 Wagon Train to St. Louis. The
wagon train has taken nine days to get from St. James, Missouri to St. Louis in previous years.
This accomplishment for boys and girls 6 through 17 who have had a history of abuse, neglect,
severe behavior, psychological problems and/or learning disorders gives them a sense of esteem
and self confidence that they can apply the rest of their lives. Foundation committee member
Lion Ken Hessler (right) presented the check to Sarah Gladson of Boys and Girls Town. First
Vice President and Foundation Chairman Bill Seebold is to the left.
The Concord Village Lions Club Community Betterment Services Foundation has contributed
$5000 to the Make -A- Wish Foundation of Metro St. Louis, Inc. This donation will be used to
grant special wishes of children suffering from life-threatening illnesses in the South St. Louis
County area. Jeffrey J. Comotto, Make-A-Wish Foundation Director (left) accepted the donation
and in return presented Lion Bill Wachter, a plaque recognizing Concord Village Lions Club
continued support.
