Carthage Lions Club Celebrates 75 Years

Melvin Jones, Secretary of Lions International and its principal founder, presented the Carthage Lions Club with its charter 75 years ago. Robert G. Tonjes, Past International Director from Prairie Village Kansas, was the speaker at the 75th Anniversary. Director Tonjes was reared in Carthage. His father was a member of the Carthage Lions Club. Lion Gerd Tonjes served District 26-E as a District Governor for the year 1950-51.

Lion Brian Steward, President of the club, called the meeting to order and introduced Don Simmons as Master of Ceremonies. The entertainment was furnished by the El Dorado Springs Show Choir and a mystery guest. The beautiful voluptuous mystery lady turned out to be Conrad Harper, District Governor of District 26-E. Harper in turn introduced the International Director as speaker of the Saturday, November 2 celebration.

Robert G. Tonjes, Lions International Past Director from Prairie Village Kansas, was the guest speaker for the Carthage Lions 75th Anniversary.
