MLERF Receives Grant From A.P. Green Foundation

The Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation recently received a grant for $12,000 from the Allen P. And Josephine B. Green Foundation, to be used for the purchase of a Panelight display system and desktop scanner.

The Allen P. And Josephine B. Green Foundation, located in Mexico, MO, has been a long time supporter of the Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation, providing funds to purchase various larger items, such as eye bank and eye research equipment, computer equipment and a van to be used for the Glaucoma Detection Program, Eye Banking and Public Awareness/Education.

Through the continued support of the A.P. Green Foundation, MLERF will have the opportunity to reach a more diverse age group through public awareness and education on eye donation. The public relations department produced an in-house "slide show" to be viewed on a computer. This has been beneficial and cost-effective for educational training for the eye bank as well as for presentations and tours, since the "slide show" can be altered and updated quickly, to keep the information timely. Although the "slide show" is very effective, it has been difficult to view by large groups.

The Panelight display system and desktop scanner will assist MLERF to capture and display computer- generated and real-life images in a large screen presentation "slide show", creating more entertaining presentations and training, and be beneficial in viewing by large groups. The unit will have maximum portability and will be an economical presentation-delivery system, allowing the option to enliven the presentation with animation or video clips as well. In addition, the scanner will be utilized in producing photos and artwork for the Foundation's various publications.
