Community Library For The Blind

The building housing the Community Library for the Blind was built by the Springfield MO Host Lions Club in 1952. The building was then also used for the blind. The Building and Library are administered by the Springfield Association for the Blind.

The building, located at Washington and Locust, is being brought back to life by a Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) grant of $7,500 matched with $7,700 raised by the Lions of District 26-H which includes the Springfield - Branson area. The money is being used to furnish the facility with computers, braille books, braille printers and magnifying glasses as well as shelves, tables, chairs etc. A complete remodeling and enlarging program is under way. There is only one other Library like it in the USA and that one is located in California. The Lions of District 26-H can be justly proud of their facility.
