The new ball diamond project began in 1993. The total cost of the project to the club was $27,000, not including volunteer labor, which was abundant. Several members of the community volunteered their time and expertise to help with things such as surveying, bulldozing, welding, concrete, electrical work, painting, erection of lights and fencing.
The club held a dedication ceremony for the Vienna Lions Field in memory of United States softball star pitcher Becky Muffin on May 8. The payments for the ball diamond were made possible through car rallies, holiday flag flying program, cow chip bingos, pancake breakfasts, gun raffles, Bass Pro gift certificate raffles, donkey basketball games and fishing tournaments. It was all those individual tickets the community purchased that helped make this project possible and the Vienna Lions Club would like to thank the community of Vienna for all their support over the past three years with this important community project. The Vienna Lions Club currently has 30 members, one of which is a charter member. The club - also includes four women to date. The club is always looking for new members who are interested in making Vienna a better place to live. Plans are in the works for the club's next project.
