It has been 15 years since the first "Weekend in Mexico" door prize was awarded at the Lions' State Convention to a couple, who, like most others attending, expected a trip to the country of the same name. After a successful weekend in Mexico, MO, the annual prize has been a coveted award among Lions throughout the state. Often previous winners will return to help the honored guests celebrate. All local Lions Club members and their spouses were invited, as were all other Lions throughout the state.
According to Paul Sitton, chairman of the activities, the Harpers were presented a proclamation from Mayor of the City Friday evening. Saturday's activities included a tour of the Missouri Veterans' Home and a tour of LeFevure Security Service, manufactures of banking security supplies. Following lunch and a tour of Barbary Coast in Mexico was a tour of the Audrain County Historical Museum.
Also attending this year was District Governor Julie Koortyohann and her husband Lion Steve of District 26- C, District Governor Jim Salarano and wife, Lion Maxine, from Bridgeton, MO, District 26-A2. The President of the Mexico Lions Club is Ray Parrish.
