PARAPLEGIC YOUTH AIDED BY WILLOW SPRINGS LIONS CLUB

Five year old Brandon Wilce is a Paraplegic. He has been since the age of three when he was struck by an automobile when he lived in California. The Spinal Cord injuries left him Paralyzed from the waist down. He has made progress during the last two years having some movement in the right leg and is gaining feeling in the left leg.

Although he goes to therapy twice a week, there is other assistance available. It comes in the form of a therapeutic bicycle. The bicycle is capable of growing with the youngster. It will adjust its structure as he grows. The Primary motivating power for operation of the bicycle is through the arms, but as he moves the arms the Pedals move his feet.

The Willow Springs Lions sponsored a fifty/fifty drawing to Purchase the bicycle. The generosity of people from California to Florida and as far as Great Britain contributed over $5,000 for the project.

There are many winners in this event. Brandon on his sixth birthday received his new bicycle. Mrs. Doreen Kissee won $2,540 with which she bought a new refrigerator and kitchen floor and many other Lions Charities will benefit from the over $1,500 remaining.

Shown with Brandon are Willow Springs Lions Neil Aye (left) and Ron Frommel as they assist in getting the settings right.
