Each year the
Optimist Club presents the Excellence in Education Award to a
non-Optimist member who exemplifies working with youth to
provide meaningful educational and life-skills support. This
year’s recipient is Mr. Bryce Swafford who is in his fourth year
as the General Technology instructor in the Rolla School
System. In addition to the improvements he has facilitated in
the technical resources and curriculum of the General Technology
program, he also serves as head coach to the 9th
grade football team, 8th grade track team and RHS
Girl’s basketball team. The Lady Bulldogs have amassed a record
of 44 wins and 9 over the last two seasons under Coach
Swafford. Also, Coach Swafford has continued the tradition
established by his predecessors of encouraging the Lady Bulldogs
to provide invaluable volunteer assistance annually to the Rolla
Optimist Girl’s basketball program, a free program for Rolla
girls in the 3rd-7th grades. All he asks
in return is fresh, hot coffee each Saturday morning.
The Optimist Club of Rolla is proud to award the 2005-2006
Excellence in Education Award to Coach Bryce Swafford for his
outstanding performance on and off the court. Information on
the Optimist Club of Rolla and its programs can be obtained at
