The hotline for the Optimist Club is 426-2211 for
cancellation information Welcome to The Optimist Club of Rolla Girls
Basketball Program. 5th & 6th grade practice for this
Saturday is canceled and 3rd & 4th practice for next Wed is
canceled. We
will continue to play the remainder of the games. The game times on
Saturday the 17th have been adjusted. They
will be as follows:
Please come ready to play basketball. Court
shoes, Hair pulled back, no jewelry, no jeans, etc. Our program is going to
run thru December 14th. This is one of many changes
that we have made for this year. As you all know the Optimist Club
programs are free but operate off of donations and fundraisers. I
appreciate all of the donations that help make this program
possible. I also encourage you to approach the program in a
positive fashion. Our goal is to help the kids learn the fundamentals
of the game and have a good time doing it. I am looking forward to
another great year of Optimist Basketball. Thank you all for being patient
in regards to getting this information. I have pasted a note from a SIR
Board member due to several questions or comments directed to me. I
just wanted to clarify SIR’s position in regards to playing Optimist as I am
not a SIR Board member. Hope this helps everyone. I am looking
forward to getting the games rolling Sat. See you at the Jr. High
bright and early!! I hope to have T-shirts for all of the girls to hand
out then. Note
from SIR… "Girls interested in playing competitive SIR basketball need to
participate in the Optimist program. The Optimist program will focus on
skill development and will be used to select players to participate in the SIR
program." After listening to Coach Swafford's proposal, SIR decided
that the best way to serve our basketball program was to work with Optimist
to develop a way for kids to get more time with a ball in their hand, expand
the reach of the program, and to improve the selection process. We have strongly encouraged kids to participate in
Optimist because we see this as a great way to evaluate the players
for selection into SIR as well as a learning
experience for the kids to play with other players of varying skill levels.
The key to being a great player is to
make those around you better. That is what each parent needs to be preaching to their child
- that they can grow and develop as a person and a player. Can their child
improve not only their game, but those of the players around them? A
team doesn't win a game despite their weakest player, they should win because
of their weakest player. Hope the note helps to clarify things for those of you
with questions or concerns. Thanks
Again, Devonna
