Turley Draws on Real People for Characters in His Play
NEWBURG, The characters in playwright Jay Turley's next play, "The Dear
Departed," to be given at the Newburg Opera House at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 20-
21 and 27-28 are an amalgamation of the personalities that Turley has
known through the years and will, no doubt, remind many in the audience
of acquaintances they have known.
The cast is made up of all kinds of people who have gathered in the
little church in Pot Hole, Texas, for the funeral of Johnny Stoneyfeller,
the world's richest man.
Stoneyfeller's only brother, Dirty Sam, has been married six times and
has represented a large part of the U.S.a. when he named all of them for
states. Not only are the characters surprised at the contents of teh
will, but there are surprises for the audience as well.

"Folk Musicians"
Newspaper article, Rolla Daily News
NEWBURG -- Cathy Barton and Dave Para, Missouri Folk Musicians, are to be
presented by the Regional Opera Company at the Newburg Opera House at
8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Barton's lovely voice and presentation captivate her audiences. Her
programs and records are interspersed with instrumental numbers. She
plays the banjo and hammered dulcimer. Twice she won the Tennessee Old-
Time Banjo Championship and she is credited with having introduced the
hammered dulcimer to many of the current players.
Husband Dave sings and plays guitar, which makes their music very
special. Barton learned most of her material from visiting with other
singers such as Grandpa Jones and his family and the Carters. She has
appeared on "Grand Old Opry" and "Hee Haw."
During the last 10 years they have been in concerts all over the Midwest
and have appeared throughout this country and Europe. They are
experienced in folk music and instrumental workshops. Barton last spring
worked with the Sedalia and Boonville schools for several weeks.
