"Finding His Way" was inspired by the artist's field experiences while working for the National Mapping Division of the U.S. Geological Survey. Field personnel walk the land to verify map content and collect data in order to assure accuracy of maps. Computers have changed and replaced much of the mapmaker's work, and many scientists now use computerized maps for their investigations. But the topographic map is still the guide of choice for hikers and hunters across the country to find their way.
