The Internet was built on UNIX!The UNIX operating system was developed at AT&T's Bell Laboratories in the early 1970s by Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie, and others. The Internet began as ARPA (now DARPA), Advanced Research Projects Agency, which was comprised of the Department of Defence, universities, and researchers. Its mission was to develope new technology for military use. ARPA also provided funding for the development of the Berkeley version of UNIX and TCP/IP. Support
