How to install Netscape's Communicator browser in Linux. First download Netscape Communicator for Linux to your account directory, you may need to hold down the shift key when you click on the link to download, you can do this using the NCSA Mosaic browser. Logout of your user account and login as root, using xfm creat a Netscape directory in /usr/local (/usr/local/netscape) and move the file you downloaded to it, then using xterm change to that directory and type tar xzvf the_file_you_downloaded.tgz and press enter, change directories to /usr/local/netscape/netscape where the binaries are located, then make a symbolic link to the binaries by right clicking on netscape in xfm, then on link and typing /usr/local/bin, or you can do it in an xterm by changing directories to /usr/local/bin and typing ln -s /usr/local/netscape netscape. Next, you'll need to create a symbolic link to each of the user accounts, so they will be able to use Netscape Communicator too. |
