Paperwork, is it important?
You bet your work assignment it is. Management lives and dies by paperwork. Forms, reports, charts, graphs, memos, directives, etc. and the shuffling of said paperwork from this desk to that desk, from this office to that office, from this boss to that subordinate boss. Paperwork appears to be the measure of management's productivity.
So how does all this paperwork relate to the Letter Carrier?
We as Letter Carriers have a responsibility to assist management by submitting the paperwork that is associated with our jobs.
Undeliverable Mail Report, Etc. (PS Form 1571) is for mail that is curtailed. Curtailed mail is any mail that is at your case and available for delivery but is not delivered. Carrier - Auxiliary Control (PS Form 3996) is for the authorization of overtime or any auxiliary assistance received; this includes both Office and Street assistance.
You are entitled to a copy of these two PS Forms. It would behoove you to request your copy of said forms and follow up on receiving your copy. Save your copies! File them where you can reference these forms at a future date. It only costs you a little extra effort but it could save you from some major headaches. Especially where your work assignment is concerned.
