LEMON SQUARES

2 1/4 cups of flour, divided
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 cup butter or margarine
1 tsp. baking powder
4 eggs
2 cups granulated sugar
1 T. grated lemon peel (2 lemons)
4 1/2 T. lemon juice
Mix 2 cups flour and powdered sugar. Cut in butter until particles resemble small peas. With hands work into the dough. Press in bottom and 1 1/2 inches up sides of lightly greased 13x9x2 inch baking dish. Bake in heated oven 15 minutes or until firm to touch. Meanwhile mix remaining 1/2 cup flour and baking powder and set aside. Beat eggs until frothy, stir in gran. sugar, lemon peel, juice and flour mixture just until blended. Pour into hot crust. Bake 25 min. or until filling is set and top is light brown. Cool in pan, cut in squares.
