BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES

Each year during the cucumber season, Ed uses this recipe to make Bread and Butter pickles. Everyone seems to enjoy them.

 

1 gallon sliced cucumbers (heaped up) do not peel.

1 large onion, sliced

2 large green sweet peppers (optional)

Soak this in ice water with 1/2 cup salt for 3 hours.

Drain

 

Heat to boiling point:

4 cups sugar (white)

4 cups vinegar

1-1/2 tsp. Tumeric

2 tablespoons mustard seed

 

Add the cucumbers, peppers and onions to the hot vinegar mixture and heat thoroughly. Do not boil. Seal hot.
