Old Time Radio

My favorites are the dramas, with Sci-Fi a close second, and the comedies rank last in order of preference.  Inner Sanctum is my all time favorite, Raymond made that show a lot of fun for me.  Still does when i run across a show that I don’t have in my collection.  Suspense and Escape are also two great shows that never fail to captivate me.  X-minus 1 and Dimension X, way cool.  “A Pail Of Air” & “The LIfeboat Mutiny” are really fun episodes.  Oh I like the Shadow, the detective shows, The Whistler, etc. but the darker tales really do it for me.

Half my tiny collection is on open reel tape and the other half is shows I’ve downloaded from one place or another on the internet.  Finding the time to capture from open reel will be the biggest challenge.

Please join me on irc.chatchannel.org in #otr.  I have an fserve setup for your OTR use.

My primary playback source is a standalone dvd player.  A Raite 715 with the A2 firmware.  This firmware not only supports low bitrate mp3 playback, but has a ‘disc browser’ built in.  SmartNavi allows you to browse the contents of a disc much like a computer.  You can use the arrow and enter keys on your remote, or the numeric keys to select a directory and/or file.  Below is a screen shot of my first ‘test’ disc with mixed filetypes.  Everything from mp3 lo/hi bitrate files to mpeg1 VBR/CBR and mpeg2 files can be played back without needing a specific disc format. [VCD etc]

The Raite 715 has been replaced by a Philips 642

With the recent addition of a Philips dvd+rw drive, I can now put 4.7 gigabytes of OTR on one disc.  Most of us have much more than that, but compared to 700megs per CD, the DVD @ 4.7gigs is very handy =]
