The University:Station Alliance (U:SA)
The University: Station Alliance (U:SA) is a grassroots initiative that focuses on the relationship between public radio stations and their university licensees. Ongoing problems occur because of the very different cultures that exist within an academic environment and that of a business-oriented radio station. These problems keep stations from reaching their potential and keep universities from enjoying the benefits that result from having a strong, well equipped public radio station as a part of the campus.
The U:SA plans to address the many issues facing stations and their university-licensees in a thoughtful and inclusive manner. Stations will begin the process in an effort to establish priorities and develop a consensus around those priorities. Other stakeholders will then enter the process, to include representatives from national organizations and higher education. By opening up communication on all levels and by bringing the various perspectives, resources and vast expertise represented by all stakeholders, it is hoped that comprehensive and lasting solutions will be the result.
As a first step, the U:SA web site has been created as a resource repository for stations and their university licensees. The documents below have been developed by Carr Communications and are samples of materials that can be found at the site. We invite you to visit the U:SA web site for additional resources and information on this groundbreaking initiative
