Audit Of the City of Rolla

Members of the Citizens Committee for the Preservation of Buehler Park organized a petition.

The petition read simply:  "We the undersigned, hereby request an audit of the City of Rolla, Missouri, as provided by Section 29.230, RSMo.  We understand that the political subdivision named above shall pay the actual cost of the audit.  Based on information provided by the State Auditor's Office, the cost of an audit for political subdivisions of a similar size and function has ranged from $12,000 to $20,000.  We also understand that this form, when filed with the state auditor becomes a public record which will be open for public inspection."

The petition was signed by 933 people, of which 820 were verified by the Phelps County Clerk as registered voters within the City of Rolla.  By law, the State Auditor is now required to audit the City of Rolla.  If you wish to express any concerns to the State Auditor, there are several ways in which this can be done.  You can call the Auditor's hotline number, 800-347-8597, or write or call Karen Laves, CPA, Director of Local Government Audits, State Auditor's Office, P.O. Box 869, Jefferson City, MO 65102, 573-751-4213.  You need not leave your name if you don't want to, but please be as clear and specific as possible as to your concern.

You can also mail your concern to Tom Sager, chief petitioner for the audit.
Tom's address is P.O. Box 2046, Rolla, MO 65402.
