Discussion
of club bylaws. Developed a proposal to be presented to the membership
for vote. These bylaws will be posted on the RATS website. Members
will vote via email response by January 31. At least half of the membership
will be required to vote, and a simple majority will determine whether
or not the proposed bylaws will be accepted.
It
was mentioned that we need to be sensitive to the needs of members
that do not have internet access. The secretary will make sure that
these members are made aware of RATS news.
Dick
Elgin mentioned a friend (Kent Robinson) that would like to be involved
with our club. Kent is a lawyer and has offered to advise us on legal
issues.
Dick
Fonner made available the latest issue of "Cycle St. Louis".
He mentioned the extended tours and day rides that they have planned.
If anyone wants to put together a group of bikers to participate in
one of these rides, please contact Dick.
Dick
Fonner mentioned the need for members to be ride leaders throughout
the season. Also looking for ideas for new ride routes.
Dick
Fonner is checking into the logistics of riding the entire length
of the KATY trail over a series of different days/weekends. A vote
revealed about 10 people present would like to ride it in one day
segments, and about 10 are interested in weekend rides (with camping
or B&B). Round-trip day rides were also suggested, with one way
on roads.
Brief
mention of club financial status. Our balance is about $178, generated
from membership dues and a business membership from Route 66 Bicycles.
There
was discussion about business memberships. We will not pursue these
memberships for now.
We
talked about publishing a newsletter. It was decided that club information
can be passed along via the website, email, meetings and mailings,
making a newsletter unnecessary at this time, and saving a significant
amount of money.
Information
about Missouri Bicycle Federation was given. After some discussion
the members voted to join this group for an annual $30 fee.
Legal
liability issues were discussed, such as liability of the club officers.
We discussed whether or not every ride should have ride waivers, or
only the major rides.
Discussed
adding a "ride partners list" to the website to facilitate
finding people to ride with that have similar biking interests and
abilities
Club
t-shirt was discussed. Chuck DeWitt offered to get prices and options
for us and report back.
Mention
of Ride to the River on July 10, Tour of the Ozarks on September 18,
Cycle Across Missouri Parks in June, and various centuries with other
clubs.
No
date was set for the next meeting. Members will be notified and it
will be announced on the website. Possible informal gathering in February
just to stay in touch (restaurant?). |
