Missouri Child Abuse/Neglect Hotline - dial 1-800-392-3738 You can make your report anonymously, if you choose, but it is best to give your name and telephone number in case further information is needed for the investigation. Your name cannot be released to the alleged abuser except by order of the court, and any information that might allow the alleged abuser to identify you will not be released if it may put your life or safety in danger (see 210.150 RSMo, paragraphs 2 (5) and 3 (3).) If you know of a child being abused or neglected, please call - you could save that child's life!

Phelps County Committee to Prevent Child Abuse - I need some information on this group.
The Russell House can provide information, advice, and shelter for persons seeking to leave an abusive situation, and can assist with obtaining protective orders from the court if necessary. The location is confidential; they will give you directions if you need to go there for shelter. The regular phone # is 573-364-0579. The 24-Hour Crisis Line is 573-364-0222. Phelps County Division of Family Services is located on Kingshighway, and can be reached at 573-368-2340. They can provide assistance with family problems as well as income maintenance services such as food stamps and AFDC.
Local Organization for Various Emergencies (LOVE) provides short term assistance for families facing temporary emergencies, and interim assistance for those needing help while waiting for some form of public benefits to start. LOVE can also make referrals to a number of other area assistance agencies and organizations. The office is at 112 West 7th Street in Rolla, and the phone # is 573-364-5863.
Vocational Rehabilitation is a program designed to help persons with a physical or mental impediment to become employed. It is operated in Missouri by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The Rolla VocRehab office is located on Hwy 72 East, in the same building with the Social Security office. The phone number is (573) 368-2266. This office serves the counties of Phelps, Maries, Pulaski, Dent, Texas, and Crawford. Meramec Area Legal Aid Corporation (MALAC) provides free legal services to low-income persons in the Missouri counties of Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Iron, Madison, Maries, Phelps, Pulaski, Reynolds, St. Francois, Ste. Genevieve, and Wayne. Eligibility for services is based on income, assets, and the type of case. (Criminal cases are not accepted - see the Public Defender.) Applications for services can be made by telephone at: Rolla 573-341-3655; Toll-free 800-999-0249. The mailing address is P.O. Box 135, Rolla, MO 65402-0135, and the physical office has recently moved to a new location on Highway 72 on the east side of Rolla, near the Social Security and Voc/Rehab offices.
The Public Defender's Office provides legal services in criminal cases to persons who cannot afford counsel. Application can be made by telephone at 573-368-2260, or by request to the Court for appointed counsel.
The Phelps County Prosecuting Attorney prosecutes criminal cases and generally represents the county in legal matters. The Prosecuting Attorney's office is located in the Phelps County Courthouse at 3rd and Main; the phone # is 573-364-3331.
