It's not only a streamlined way to draw and color
quilts, but it's a fun pasttime as well. There might
be other quilt software programs, but none is more
powerful than EQ6. I am not in any way affiliated
with the company-- just a very enthusiastic user.
quilt about them and their interests. They got to choose
the design and colors. I made them another quilt for their
21st birthdays of my choosing. I used to host a little
church quilt group. I would teach a new concept each
week, then everyone worked on their current project.
I spread my quilting disease to ten friends, at least.
There doesn't seem to be a cure for it.

I wanted to see a block crammed full of stars,
yet be easy to piece.

Milky Way

This is a navy and lemon queen-size bed quilt, a variation of Milky
Way. I modified the block by splitting the 'legs' and making them 2
shades of yellow to produce movement and interest. The quilt is
machine pieced and hand quilted every half inch in a swirling design.

I love tilted blocks. Though very simple, they go
great with homespun flannels for a cozy lodge feel.

Coffee Dreams

"Coffee Dreams" popped into my head while looking out the window. The
'land' and borders are machine pieced, the rest is hand appliqued. It
has interesting quilt designs, especially the random spoons in the
brown border. I have made a couple other coffee quilts, and have at
least two more in my head.

I was experimenting with machine curved piecing.
The gentle curves are easy to piece. I enjoy
creating a 3D effect with close shades of color.

I once saw a picture of an old-timey quilt that had 100 coffee cups.
I fell in love with it, but couldn't imagine the tedium of making
that many blocks. So I made only a wimpy effort of 25 15" giant
cups, pieced, as in the bottom of the photo. I wasn't satisfied
until, years later, I hand appliqued 4" blocks, and made 196 of
them! It has my 'signature' rainbow sashing. It was fun to make.

Twister

This is my first art quilt. It's an 'arial' view of a tornado made from
"corner post", or "farmer's daughter" blocks. Each block is 3/4 larger
than the one before, and I'm told it's arranged in an Archemede's Spiral.
(What? An algebra-flunky doing something so mathematically elegant?) This
quilt is my (then) life of controlled chaos, represented by a nod to the
Wizard of Oz story. It is embellished with symbols of my life such as tiny
pictures of my family, bible, purse (with real money in it), plus cows,
like the one in the movie. There are beads and metallic threads of several
kinds. I made a polymer clay Toto, and there's even an 18" piece of
barbed wire on the left edge.

This is a simple 9 Patch quilt, except the center square
is a "biscuit": made of a larger square and pinched in
the center of each center seam. So if 8 squares are
3", then the center one might be 5", and pinched (or
folded or pleated) so their sides are each 3" as well.

This design would be very quick to make> It's
comprised of 4 different sizes of squares that
could be appliqued by hand or machine. The
design is perfect for contemporary fabrics.

I made this quilt for my daughter, to commemorate turning 21 years
old. She worked in the florist industry, so all the white squares
are machine embroidered with flowers of the world. I was surprised
by the secondary design.

A 3D effect is made by making the background
gradations of 1 color. Going from the center,
the background is dark to light, and the fat
stars go from light to dark.

I pieced this quilt while listening to the Clarence Thomas justice

and rides in the back seat of the car.
