No kidding!
Marti's Two Cent's-Worth

Welcome to my brief "Me" page. Here's my house. Aside from being a Christian, which is the foundation for everything else, my other main lifelong influence is music. I have a cool musical heritage: some of my Swedish ancestors played in the royal orchestra. My parents, grandparents, sister, brother, husband and children are all musically gifted. My maternal Gramma knows the lyrics to every song ever written, and at the age of 98 she can still carry a tune. I've been blessed to be involved in church, school, and other assorted music since early childhood, so music is a big deal to me. There was an old upright piano in the house we lived in, and my earliest memories are of picking out little tunes on that piano. My dad taught me how to play the guitar, which I kept up on until I started having kids. I was very fortunate to grow up in a school district where instruments could be checked out for the school year,

rather than having to purchase one's own instrument. I thought I wanted to be a music teacher when I grew up, so I started with the clarinet and set out to learn every instrument I could get my hands on. The only ones I didn't learn well enough to play in band, orchestra or stage band, were the double reeds and violins. My favorite was the French Horn. Sadly, I didn't keep up with them through the years, but every New Year's Eve at midnight I go outside and play "Auld Lang Syne" on the trombone as loud as possible. For the last 10 years I've been playing keyboards with the church worship team, and I'm learning to play violin. So far it sounds so bad I feel like crying along with the dog.

Some of my favorite things to do that have also been longterm interests are basket weaving, landscape painting, woodworking, flower gardening and creative sewing. I built a few tables, a blanket chest, and floor-to-ceiling bookshelves for each bedroom. I'm learning to do Norwegian folk painting called rosemaling (rose-mahl-ing), or Rose Painting. I'm presently hooked on it, and plan to rosemal everything that can hold a coat of paint. I have a dollhouse, and enjoy furnishing it in the style of the year 1900. I even made Dave and Marti dolls to live in it. When I'm not doing those things, I love to drive around rural Missouri, one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

I've been collecting coffee cups since about 1969, and recently built a floor-to-ceiling mug shelf. It holds about 120 cups, not including Christmas ones. I really love collecting Swedish folk art, such as Dala horses and textiles. But by far, the thing that has had me captivated since about 1987 is quilting. I have learned to love all components of quilt making, and usually have several in various stages of completion. I now own a Husqvarna Viking Designer 1 sewing machine with embroidery unit. Although I've been sewing all my life, I now sew everyday thanks to my Des 1. I even take it to hotels so I can play with it. Naturally I became a machine embroidery devotee and thread junkie!

The web pages below reflect quilting and some of my other interests and delights that we might have in common. God bless you, and thanks for visiting.
