Chic 60s Skiers Ornaments
To make these cute skiers, paint a non-spring clothespin pink for the head, red (or any color you like) for the body, and
black for the ski boots. Make two arms by whittling a popsicle stick to size with an exacto knife. Paint on the mittens or
hands, then cover the arms with a folded piece of fabric per arm and glue. Wrap a piece of fabric around the skier's body
for a tunic, glued with tacky glue, then glue arms in place. For the hat (or hair) bend a chenille bump into a spiral and
glue to the top of the head. A cotton pompom is good, too. Take a piece of decorative or metallic thread or braid and tie
it around the neck for a hanger. Then cut a 1/2 " X 6" piece of red flannel fabric and tie around the neck for a long
scarf, blowing in the mountain wind! Pull out a few short threads to make the scarf ends look like fringe. Take a bamboo
shishkabob skewer, break it in half and whittle the broken ends so you have two 3.5" ski poles. Cut 2 little round disks
from a piece of cereal box cardboard to be near the ends of the poles. Use a big needle to poke a hole in the middle of
each disk, then work the poles (sharp end first) into the disks going up about 1/2". Apply a drop of tacky glue to the
underside of each disk where it meets the pole. Whittle 2 skis from 2 popsicle sticks, They're a little pointy in front
and square at the back. Paint them black (or any other color) on both sides and all edges. Glue the clothespin feet to
the 2 skis. Glue the ski poles to the insides of the hands so that they angle backwards at a slant. Carefully paint tiny
eyes, nose, smile and cheeks on the face. Paint tiny white laces at the sides of the boots. With a fine tip marker, draw
little lines on the ski pole disks that radiate from the pole. Glop some snow paint on the hat and at the front and back
of the skis. Finally, Sign and date on the bottoms of the skis.
