Get a paper mache box from the craft store. Turn it on end and open it like a book. With a large, strong needle, poke a hole through the (now) top, being careful to find the right balance point. Thread through a piece of metallic thread or braid for a hanger. Paint a simple night sky dark blue. I used metallic copper for the land, and painted simple hills. Paint the sky and land all the way around the box, all surfaces. Using glue with a fine point and glitter, dot the sky with stars, again all the way around the box. With the glue, draw a special, guiding star over the area where Mary, Joseph and Jesus will be located. Sprinkle on glitter, tap off excess. Hot glue the nativity figures in place after a dry run to see how they best fit, and glue in some tiny scraps of fake greenery for interest. If the box doesn't hang straight, glue some washers or magnets to the bottom OR the back to make it hang balanced. In the picture you can see where I placed my hanger, and it turned out to be just right- no weights needed. After I took the photo, I brushed off the excess glitter with a soft paint brush, and it looked much better, not dusty.
