I began to keep a journal of things I want to do after I finally meet Jesus face-to-face, after I greet friends and family who got there first. This list came about as the result of turning 40 years old and realizing mortality is inevitable. I was depressed about it for about 2 years. I wasn't afraid to die, but afraid I would have a long, drawn-out illness. All this caused me to think about Heaven frequently. It became much more real to me. Thoughts of Heaven gave me encouragement not to fear. Now I am in my 50's, and strongly looking forward to the Hereafter. It's a win-win situation! Christians who are afraid to die would be comforted if they could imagine some of the wonderful things going on up there. People who don't know Jesus Christ might be more likely to accept Him if they knew what He has prepared for those who love Him. Scripture hints at some of the things we'll encounter there, like 'the lion will lie down with the lamb', and that 'little children will play with snakes'. We're told we'll sit down and eat together, yet our bodies will be glorified, perfect. We shouldn't try to figure it all out: our brains will explode. I encourage you to 'think on these things', and come up with a list of your own. Here are mine, in no particular order, some lighthearted, some very serious, enough to last a long time. Someone said that a bird could pick up one grain of sand at the beach and fly all the way to the sun with it, drop it, fly back, pick up another grain, drop it on the sun, fly back, and so forth until all the sand of the whole world were moved to the sun, taking an immeasurable number of years to do this, and we'd still be just beginning our lives in Heaven. 1) Watch God's reaction to our worship.
2) Ask the Lord how and why He made all living things.
3) Listen to every God-breathed melody since Adam and Eve.
4) Meet and get to know my ancestors.
5) Jam with all the musicians.
6) Learn woodworking from Jesus.
7) Hear everyone's testimony/life story.
8) Hug Eve, and discuss sin.
9) Talk with 'my' angels about all the 'near misses' when they were watching over me...dangers I didn't even know were there.
10) Worship Jesus in Person.
11) Feel exhilarated all the time, forever.
12) Hug David.
13) Meet and rejoice with my 3 miscarried babies.
14) Thank the great composers for sharing their works.
15) Discuss 'spiritual warfare' with angels Gabriel and Michael.
16) Learn the secrets of the universe.
17) Eat heavenly foods without guilt.
18) Find out what was funny to Jesus while He was with the Disciples.
19) Have some good laughs with Jesus, the Father and the Holy Spirit.
20) Have long talks with the heroes of the Old Testament.
21) Hang around with animals.
22) Learn every plant and what it's for.
23) Sit in the Father's lap.
24) Listen to God telling His favorite stories.
25) Hear Jesus' anecdotes about the 12 disciples.
26) Listen to the 11 Disciples tell anecdotes about Jesus.
27) Make a celestial quilt.
28) Swim in deep, clear waters without having to come up for a breath.
29) Learn about the universe found in the center of a flower, and in the eye of a spider.
30) Just for fun, find out just exactly how many angels *can* dance on the head of a pin.
31) Discuss with Paul the rigors of keeping the Law as a Pharisee of Pharisees.
32) Hug Mary of Magdala.
33) Meet my living and yet-unborn descendants.
34) Seek out and ask forgiveness of all the many people I have arrogantly wronged.
35) Learn how electricity works and fiddle around with it.
36) Talk over life on Earth with the many friends I lost contact with.
37) Get to know the Lord's people I got to meet, but never got to know.
38) See the deep insides of things God made that cannot be seen into in this life.
39) Examine the 'Pearly Gates'.
40) Sit on clouds and strum on harps for kicks.
41) Count the lawyers who 'made it'. I bet there will be more than I think.
42) Get to know Mary, the mother of Jesus, discuss what she 'treasured up in her heart'.
43) Count up the stars and learn their names.
44) Give animals piggyback rides if they like.
45) Hug Rahab.
46) Learn why God made time in the increments He did.
47) Develop a larger worship vocabulary.
48) Serve the Martyrs, from the ancient ones to today's.
49) Laugh with Jesus about the "Big Bang Theory".
50) Do Hebrew line dancing with the matriarchs of Scripture.
51) Personally thank God for all the many, many blessings I've enjoyed in this life.
52) Ask Jesus what happened when He was in the grave for three days.
53) Find out from Adam and Eve what they discussed with God while walking together in the cool of the evening.
54) Ask some of the angels what the fallen angels were like before they left heaven.
55) Enjoy Heaven's technology.
56) Hug Dorcas and thank her for setting a good example.
57) Greet and thank the Sunday School teacher who introduced me to Jesus around 1962.
58) Play with chipmunks and pandas.
59) Enjoy the flexibility of my new body.
60) Hug Peter's wife. Find out what it was like for her to be instantly healed.
61) Make EVERYONE a quilt.
62) Do the work God has planned for me to do.
63) Find out what Jesus said and did that caused children to hang all over Him.
64) See what would have been written in all those books that John said the world couldn't contain.
65) Get to know Mary and Joseph's other children.
66) Run as fast as I want as long as I want, and never get tired.
67) Ask Solomon how he kept track of all his wives and concubines.
68) Find out why God made mosquitoes and poison ivy.
69) Witness and share in the rejoicing of people like prophet Jeremiah, a guy I know named Alec, and medieval martyrs who had a hard life on earth, who might enjoy Heaven the most.
70) Listen to God the Father tell about His feelings when Jesus was born on earth.
71) Listen to the shepherds tell their reaction to the angel's announcement of Jesus' birth.
72) Find out how God made cats so they could purr.
73) Listen to God tell why He loves Mankind so much.
74) Listen to "the great cloud of witnesses" (Hebrews 11) tell how they cheered on the rest of the Believers running the race.
75) Ask Jesus' mother Mary how her subsequent babies differed from her firstborn Son.
76) Enjoy eating the Marriage Supper of the Lamb without any food angst.
77] Defy gravity whenever I want.
78] Explore stars and planets faster than "warp speed".
79] Discuss marriage with Esther.
80] Find out Elisha's reaction when he found out his skeleton actually revived a dead man.
81] Ask Moses' mother to share her feelings when she launched her baby into the river.
82] Join my voice with the great cloud of witnesses cheering on the saints still running the race on earth.
83] Discuss with the Lord His sewing techniques when He made Adam and Eve the fur robes.
84] Ask God in all of history if there were other animals besides Balaam's donkey who voluntarily spoke words.
85] Find out who repented and got saved after it looked like all human hope was gone and they seemed dead.
86] Learn what, besides people and the creations on earth, were God's next favorite creations.
87] Watch spectacular light displays and other 'entertainments' God wants to show us.
88] Enjoy the perfect health of those I knew on earth who were so terribly afflicted in body.
89] Ask Adam and Eve what the forbidden fruit actually tasted like, and how they felt afterward.
90] Ask Jesus what were His favorite foods while He was living here on Earth.
91] Master all the musical instruments there are.
92] Ask Jesus about some of the people He loved that didn't choose to go His way.
93] Have Jesus sing some of His favorite songs while he was living in Israel.
94] Listen to God laugh and laugh.
95] Enjoy the attributes of my new, glorified body.
96] Ask Daniel what it was like to spend a long night with a pit of hungry lions.
97] Ask Paul to tell stories about some of the home church meetings he went to.
98] Listen to Lazarus tell about being in the grave for 4 days.
99] Marvel at special displays of God's power without being afraid.
100] Ask God to tell me about the blessings He gave me that I wasn't aware of.
101] After 777 septillion years in His presence, continue learning about God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
102] Listen to Mary talk about the cuteness of Jesus as a toddler.
103] Enjoy people-watching: people who were miserable on Earth, but weep for joy to find themselves in Heaven.
104] Learn the heirarchy of angels.
105] Enjoy not taking medicine, no operations, no pain, no depression, no migraines, no disease, no aging as we know it.
106] Find out how Noah's wife coped with living cooped up with all those animals for a year.
107] Ask Jesus what His favorite passtimes were when He was a boy on Earth.
108] Love everyone and be loved with the most joyful intensity unknown in our present life.
109] Ask God if there was anything He made that was hard to create.
110] Ask God why each part of the human body was made just that way.
111] Tickle apes.
112] Find out Adam and Eve's favorite foods in the Garden.
