Here is our feline member of the family, Punky. We call him Punky, Punkmeister, Punky-Unkums, Bad Kitty, You Mean Thing, Chunkins and Kitty Kitty Kitty Kitty Kitty. A couple years ago he was hiding under the hood of the car, and when Dave started it up to go to work, he heard a squealing sound. He jumped out and caught the cat just as he was trying to run away. The fan had removed the skin and fur from the tail bones, just like a sleeve comes off an arm. Dave picked up Punky and his limp little tail and went straight to the vet. She couldn't reattach the skin, of course, so she docked his tail, except for the 1st tailbone. Now he looks like he has a little powderpuff where the tail should be. If that weren't bad enough, he's also numb in that area, so if his hygiene isn't perfect, he doesn't realize it!

Punky's daily routine is something like this: 7am, come in the house after doing cat stuff all night, be greeted by dog. Tolerate dog slobber. Check food dish, meowing loudly until someone puts something from a can in dish, none of that hard junk first. Eat like a pig, actually snarling if human or dog gets too close to dish. Go into living room, center self on loveseat where sun hits the cushions. Groom self for an hour. Sprawl and sleep, or curl up and sleep until about 4pm. Alterately, sleep in girls' bedroom or on dining room chair hidden by tablecloth until 4pm. Saunter into kitchen, make pitiful starvation sounds. Eat like there's no tomorrow, yowl to go out. Do cat stuff outside until 10pm, then come in. Try to tell family how brave he is, and how dangerous it is outside. Sleep on Marti's chest until midnight. Go out for the night, be scared of the ceramic frog on the porch. Touch frog with foot, sniff, then repeat every night of life.

Here's a picture of Show Me's Jet Breeze, our middle-aged canine member of the family. We call her Breeze, Breezy, Weezer, and Hey You Fat Dog. She has a pretty good pedigree, including a grandsire who at one time was the most titled Laborador Retriever in the world, but she was the runt of the litter, and is short for her breed. She's not the smartest dog we've ever had either, but she knows a pretty respectably-sized vocabulary, with commands such as "Go around" (when she gets her cable wound around the patio furniture), "Show me" (she has to show us where the 'snackies' are before she can have some), "Load up!" (when she gets in the car), and "Kiss the kitty" (undignified, but so funny). She's currently learning to "Turn on the Light". She also knows that if it's night and raining she doesn't have to be tethered when she goes out (because we know she won't run off the property since she's one of those uncommon Labs that doesn't like to get wet). So she'll stand by the door after dark, if she hears rain falling, until someone lets her out. When Dave is out of town overnight, Breeze will 'ask' if she can sleep on the bed with me... something she knows she can't do any other time. Dogs have so much more up in their little noggins than their faces show! Breeze is a motherly creature. She tries to groom the entire family, including the cat, every day, and she allows small children to be rough with her. She loves to ride in the car, but we're baffled as to why she enjoys it so much, when all she does is contort herself into a little ball to fit on the van seat, grunting with the effort, then go to sleep, something she can do more comfortably at home, stretched out on the floor. God surely showed His sense of humor when He made dogs!
