Ok, so if you're reading this part you're probably wondering "Who is Aaron Colman"
or "Why the heck is he so annoying?" or maybe even "Why does he have a webpage,
who does he think he is?", or some other question.
Well, since you ARE reading this it probably means you may actually be
interested in learning about me... So I figured I'll present some information
about myself.
First of all I am a multi-faceted being, and each face that shows depends on
my mood. I would classify myself as a poet, lover, philosopher, scientist,
moral theologist, idealist and realist. I usually have my head in the clouds
but my feet firmly planted on my idea of "ground" (must mean I'm pretty tall eh?
pshaw... I wish).
Second of all, I am a 19 year old male college student starting at the University
of Utah this coming quarter. I moved out of the Rolla area finally but I still
try to get keep in touch with some local matters. If you're interested in what
I look like, check out the photo gallery listed off to your left.
Well what interests me? That's a good question... one I'm still learning to
answer. But I'll pose afew things in the next few segments.
Computers:
I enjoy computers... What do I do with computers? Basically anything I
feel like doing. I've been gifted with the ability to learn anything I see
about these machines and have been learning things non-stop about them ever
since I started several years ago. I know I'm very very far away from knowing
hardly anything about them, but I'm generally willing to learn. The more I
know on them however the more I find out I don't know.
Right now I have a P166, 96 megs of EDO ram, 512k pipeline burst cache.
Ensoniq Wavetable VIVO soundcard, 4.5 gigs of EIDE harddrive space, 8x CDrom,
17" moniter and a 128 bit STB Lightspeed Video card as well as Altec Lansing Speakers
with Sub Woofer. Also Includes a 33.6 rockwell chipset modem (Viva 33.6 PnP). I
purchased a Connectix Quickcam a while ago, and I like it alot. It seems to add
another dimension to virtual life. It came with Windows 95 installed but I
had no problems recently newfs-ing my Linux drive and installing FreeBSD 2.2.1-Release.
I've done afew upgrades to the system, namely harddrive and more ram. I originally
purchased the system from CyberMax almost
a year ago for around 2 grand via a COD. I've never had any problems with it except
a few questions for the tech support people who had no problem answering me.
Science:
The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all
true art and science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer
pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.
-Albert Einstein.
Modern science has almost advanced past the logical into the realms of paradoxes
and the illogical. It now requires faith and has almost become a religion unto
itself. None-the-less it taxes the mind and allows one to expand themselves
beyond their old ways of thinking to combat the impossibilities of the Universe.
This is what I find to be it's most redeeming quality... and it is the reason
it interests me.
One such science is modern physics... there are two types of modern physics today,
Relativity and Quantum Physics.
What did Einstein do? Who is Albert Einstein? What is Relativity??
Albert Einstein was a rather smart person who investigated first qualitatively and then
quantitatively the relations in our world. Contrary to belief Einstein did NOT come up with
the idea of Relativity on his own, it was actually meant to be a patch for physics but
turned into being much much more. He did however publish this new patched theory which
was one of the most advanced ideas of this era.
There are two main parts to Relativity. The General theory and the Special theory.
The General theory of Relativity is on Gravity and Space-time. The Special theory of relativity however is a masterpiece.
The Special theory states that everything is based on everything else. ie: Time is based on velocity, velocity is based on velocity of the observers
and much much more. The most obvious ramification of Einstein's Special theory of relativity is that we shouldn't be able to move past the speed of light.
Why exactly is this true? Well, there are two very simple equations (if you want more detailed analysis, email me).
One, is the basic newtonian law of force. F=MA (Force = Mass * Acceleration).
Another is this, Mn=Mo/{Sqrt[1-(V^2)/(C^2)]} which basically states that as you approach the speed of light your mass becomes greater and greater.
At the speed of light you divide by 0 and thus your mass becomes infinite and undefinable. Thus F=MA means that it would take infinite force to go any faster.
Hence the problem.
There is so much I'd like to say about Relativity here but most of it would fill a book so I don't believe I'll be doing that.
There is another side to cosmology. This is Quantum Mechanics/Physics. Quantum physics in general deals with probability. There are key principles such as the Hisenberg principle, ideas of virtual particles among many other things too numerous to state here.
There are other side effects of Quantum Physics, such as Black Hole Hawking Radiation amung other things.
If you'd like to discuss anything said here or would just like to learn more Email me, I enjoy teaching people.
Poetry, Prose, philosophy:
I enjoy reading many kind of texts. Poets like Poe, Emerson and Thoreau have
interested me for a long time. I enjoy the classic romanticism with a small
panthiestic touch. I love the beauty of nature, it's smells and colors, and feel
that it is one of the best ways to get in touch with yourself, as well as others.
I enjoy reading prose from the same authors, as well as many others. One of my
most favorite modern authors would be Anne Rice. I like her fluent style and
her poetic phrases. Many of her paragraphs have a flow and pattern to them
which makes it almost musical if you are able to find it.
I find reading these things gives me insights to the way others thought, allowing
me to meet others in a way I normally never would've.
Religion:
I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints. I really love the Church, and I don't think
I can stress that enough. As a student I've been involved in many
student activities and class has just begun. I find that many possible
problems are usually averted well in advance and it's easier to reach my
potential with a strong sense of who I am and purpose to life. If anyone
is interested feel free to follow the above link, visit your local ward,
contact local missionaries or email me and I'll set you up with a local
contact.
Music:
I listen to music a lot. The main reason for this is because it usually
expresses my current state of mind better than I'm able to. I can easily
lose myself in the songs of others which I feel lends a great deal towards
my peace of mind. I listen to generally anything, mostly whatever I feel
like at that particular time. To give you an idea, during the course
of any one week I can go from Fur Elise or Ride of the Valkyries all
the way to Metallica's Fade to Black.
Television:
Well, here we reach the pennicle of modern society... the TV.
Nothing has had such impact on society as instant audio/visual
communications... nothing has caused such tremendous wastes of
resources either. None the less I find some shows to be worth their
weight in bandwidth. I'd have to say (surprise) that the shows I
like pose different views on life than the "norm". I also like
shows that make me laugh, not only at others... but at myself as well.
These shows would include The Simpsons, The Critic, The X-Files and
possibly some of the episodes from the Star Trek series (TOS, TNG, DS9
and Voy).
Well, that's all there is to this little section. I hope you had fun =).
