Short Course Descriptions
Email: Outlook Express
Instructor: Julie Pfeifer
Learn how to read, write, send, and organize e-mail messages using Outlook
Express. Through this course, you will also learn how to customize settings,
add signatures, block unwanted email, and create folders to organize your
messages.
Email: Web-based
Instructor: Julie Pfeifer
You don't have to have a computer to have email. In this course, you'll
learn how to set up an e-mail account through RollaNet and through Hotmail,
a web-based email service. You'll learn how to effectively manage your email
through web-based applications and will practice reading, writing, sending,
and organizing e-mail messages. The course will also cover customizing
settings, adding signatures, blocking unwanted email, and creating folders.
Genealogy on the Internet
Instructor: Carrie Rodell
This course is intended to provide participants with the basic information needed to conduct successful genealogy research on the Internet. Topics covered will include conducting effective searches, accessing databases, and making contacts. Although it is not required, participants will benefit from having some understanding of family trees and traditional genealogy research prior to taking the course.
Internet I
Instructor: Mark Pfeifer
Internet I is an introduction to the Internet, designed to teach basic Internet skills, such as how to navigate and how to find information and web sites on the Internet, and sending and receiving email. No previous Internet experience is necessary, but you should already have basic computer skills, such as how to use a mouse and how to open and close programs in a Windows environment. Individuals who do not already have these skills should enroll in our Introduction to Computers I class first.
Internet II

Internet II is designed as a continuation to our Introduction to
Internet course. This course will cover skills such as customizing your home
page, cleaning out your temporary internet files, downloading files, FTP,
and more.
Introduction to Computers I
Instructor: Mark Pfeifer
Covers the most basic computer and Windows functions, including basic computer terminology, using a mouse, opening and closing programs, and the Windows menus. It is not intended to teach in-depth Windows usage; however it is an excellent class for individuals who just bought their first computer and are unfamiliar with the Windows environment.
Introduction to Computers II
Instructor: Mark Pfeifer
Remember where you saved that important letter? Basic file management skills will make your computer time more efficient and effective. Learn how to save files, create and manage folders, use your recycle bin, and more.
Introduction to the Internet for Kids
Instructor: Carrie Rodell
A very basic introduction to the Internet for children age 7 - 10. This class is designed for children who have never or seldom been on the Internet. Children will learn how to navigate web pages by clicking on links, how to search for information on the Internet via kid-safe search engines, and basic Internet safety rules for children. A parent or care-giver is required to attend with the child.
MS Excel XP I

Learn to use MS Excel, a powerful spreadsheet program designed to make managing your business easier. In this short course, you will the very basics of Excel as well as how to write formulas, use built-in functions, create custom charts, and much more.
MS Excel XP II
Instructor: Julie Pfeifer
A continuation of MS Excel I, this course will take you even further into Excel by covering more advanced features such as creating macros, sorting and analyzing data, and building links.
MS PowerPoint XP I

Learn to use Microsoft PowerPoint XP, one of the leading presentation programs on the market. PowerPoint is easy to learn and fun to use. In this class, you will learn to organize and present information in an efficient and professional manner. You will also learn how to add clip art, hypertext links, and special effects to create dynamic presentations.
MS PowerPoint XP II

MS PowerPoint II is a continuation of MS PowerPoint I in which you will learn the more advanced features of PowerPoint including automatic slide transitions and animated graphics.
MS Word XP I
Instructor: Mary Gapsch
Learn to use Microsoft Word XP, one of the leading word processing programs. Learn how to create a multi-page document. Utilize Office Clipboard to copy, cut, and paste text. Enhance text by changing fonts, font style, size, and color. Learn how to add bulleted lists. Run the integrated grammar and spelling checker; use the thesaurus, and save retrieve, and print your documents.
MS Word XP II
Instructor: Mary Gapsch
This course is a continuation of MS Word XP I. Learn more advanced word processing features with MS Word XP. Use Word's templates and wizards to create professional looking documents. Set up tables within your documents; insert, reposition, edit, and resize graphic images; surround your text or graphics with borders; and, insert and edit headers and footers.
Scanning/Image Editing
Instructor: Mary Gapsch
Get the most from your computer. Learn to turn photographs and documents into computer images and save them to your computer or send them across the world via email. Learn to customize images by cropping, resizing, and adding special effects.
Web Design I

Provides a foundation for basic HyperText Mark-up Language (HTML), which will offer content that is specifically targeted to teach basic web page design. The course will cover the most basic HTML functions including HTML terminology, formatting text, creating links, working with images, and uploading via FTP. It is not intended to teach in-depth programming; however it is an excellent class for individuals wanting to learn how to create their own basic HTML pages for the internet. You will have the option of signing up for Internet II of the class after completing Internet I.
