RollaNet Meeting Report
November 1, 1996
Welcome To RollaNet!!
- Announcements:
- Training session on html and web searching. This Tuesday, 11/5/96,
7-9PM, UMR CSF building, 1201 State Street. See

- We need people willing to enter calendar events. Will train!! Send
e-mail to info@rollanet.org if you are interested.
- Modem connection
problems - conducting tests to see about
retrograding firmware on modems. Review committee will make decision when
data collection is complete.
- Busy signals - Will purchase Cisco 5200 for approximately $27,000, to
add up to 48 additional modems.
- Fundraising - Letters to go
out to all members. Trying to do two things:
- Synchronize yearly donations - all due in November. This should
create a concentrated influx of funds in the next month which can be used
toward the cost of the new equipment.
- Solicit additional one-time donations to help cover the up-front capital
cost of
the new equipment. If every member donated an extra $20, we'd have it
covered.
- Other accounting changes - No longer accepting monthly donations by
check. Yearly donations by check (due in November) and monthly bank debit
are the only two options. No refunds - A donation is a donation. We will
publish these changes clearly on the application forms.
- Video production - a video is being produced to help people configure
Windows 95 to connect to RollaNet. Should be available by the first of
the year. Will place copies in area libraries. This is one of the
projects being done for RollaNet by Meg Brady's Computer Science class.
- Technology Trade Show - December 3, 1996, 2:30PM-5:30PM, University
Center East, UMR, Second Floor. Conducted by Meg Brady's Computer
Science class. Demonstrations of RollaNet projects, UMR projects, and
general Internet technologies will be conducted.
- Other projects for RollaNet by Computer Science class: planning
recommendations to the Board of Directors; Phelps County Community
Partnership Asset Guide Online
- Committee Reports
- Financial report:
- Review
committee: Funding changes. Purchase of new modem equipment.
- Marketing/PR: Fundraising. New RollaNet info sheets and Phone Info
Sheets.
- User Support:

Pre-registration required due to limited seating.
To
volunteer for the helpdesk, send your name, address, phone number,
credentials and area of expertise to helpdesk@rollanet.org. Helpdesk
volunteers answer questions sent to them via email on varied topics such
as getting connected the first time to starting or improving a homepage.
Helpdeskers are also asked to make phone contact with first time users.
- InfoScouts: New WebChat. Working on potential classified ads utility.
As always, we are looking for information providers from the surrounding
communities. Need providers for community calendar of events. If you
