We haven't decided exactly how much information to report in the RollaNet newsletter, so please be patient while we consider our options. We may just summarize the information, with more detail available upon request.

Helpdesk volunteers answer questions sent to them via email on varied topics, such as getting connected the first time or improving a homepage. Members needing assistance can send email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call our voice mail at 573-364-0852.
If you would like to volunteer for the helpdesk, send your name, address, phone number, credentials and area of expertise to email@example.com.
We're working on a new page for teens. We have three teen volunteers so far. If you are interested in volunteering or have links to suggest, send e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Volunteers for creating and maintaining other information on RollaNet are also needed. We're always looking for information providers from the surrounding communities, and we need providers for the Community Calendar of Events. If interested or you have other suggestions, send e-mail to email@example.com.
In July RollaNet experienced several network related outages due to upgrade work by UMR to prepare for their new DS3 internet connection. RollaNet is now positioned so that most UMR network outages will not impact us. We are still negotiating for our own private T1 internet feed and should have more definite news very soon.
Cisco has announced a trade in program so that we can upgrade our AS5200 terminal server to 56kbs modem support. We will be talking to Cisco to get pricing information soon.
UMR is relocating it's computing equipment and as a result we will have to relocate as well. We have purchased a rack and will relocate the equipment when it arrives. We expect a 1-2 hour outage for the relocation. We are also about ready to upgrade the operating system on the primary RollaNet server. To avoid an extensive outage we will migrate services to the new Usenet server during the upgrade. All RollaNet equipment is now on UPS (uninterruptible power supply) so we should see less outages caused by power problems due to lightning.
