Part I - Who are the RollaNet Staff and Volunteers?

The RollaNet Staff falls into three different categories: the Officers and Board of Directors, part-time contract employees, and volunteers. In addition, individuals from all three of these groups make up the Review Committee, which makes recommendations to the Board for contracts, policies and agreements with users and organizational members, and protects and prevents the liability of RollaNet and its members.

When RollaNet first began in 1994, it was staffed entirely by volunteers; professionals from the greater Rolla area who donated their time and equipment to make RollaNet possible. As time passed and RollaNet became more self-sustaining, we offered contracts for some of the services the volunteers had been providing. At this time all of the contracts are for part-time services, and were offered to the volunteers who have contributed so many hours over the last four years. We're proud to say that all of our contract employees continue to donate their time and services to RollaNet above and beyond what they are compensated for. RollaNet still depends heavily on its volunteers, the backbone of the organization.

In the next several issues of the RollaNet Newsletter, we're going to be profiling some of the contract employees and volunteers. In this issue, we'll introduce you to the officers of RollaNet, also known as the Board of Directors. The officers set policy, provide quality standards and guidelines, and review complaints. All of our officers work full-time jobs in addition to their responsibilities at RollaNet. The officer positions are unpaid, and we consider ourselves very fortunate to have such highly qualified people who are willing to contribute their time and services. All of our officers have been with RollaNet since its organization in 1994.

President - Meg Brady - Meg is the Manager of User Services in the Computing and Information Services department at the University of Missouri-Rolla, where she has worked for 15 years. She has a master's degree in Computer Science which she received at UMR. Meg, together with Arlene Pagano, co-founded RollaNet in 1994. She is married to Kevin Brady, and they have 2 children, Lauren (11) and Mitchell (2).

Vice President - Steve Laub - Steve is Principal of Rolla Junior High School. He has been with the Rolla 31 School District for 14 years. He holds Masters and PhD degrees in Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Among other functions, he serves on the district's technology committee. Steve admits to be being a technological klutz, so don't call him in the middle of the night with a technical problem: he's more active in the policy end of RollaNet. Steve is married and has two kids, Emily (12) and Evan (11).

Secretary/Treasurer - Randy Carnahan - Randy is a partner in the law firm of Carnahan, Carnahan and Hickle. He's been an attorney since 1980, and his practice includes business and real estate law, personal injury and estate planning. He received his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Missouri-Rolla. His graduate degree is in law, which he received from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Randy played a key role in incorporating RollaNet in 1994, serves as our legal agent, helped develop our acceptable use agreement, and continues to provide valuable advice on our Review Committee. He has been a speaker at MOREnet conferences on the topic of Internet and the Law.
