How to Setup a Web Page Counter

RollaNet has received a vast number of requests for a counter for web pages. In response we have installed a counter that is built into the server itself! The counter only requires you to add a line of HTML to access the number of hits. Below we have outlined all the steps that you will need to use this utility.

If you experience problems with this counter, please email helpdesk@rollanet.org.

If you use this counter on your default home page, then it will need to be named "index.html". The counter won't work if it's named "index.htm". It doesn't matter whether you use the ".html" or ".htm" extension on other files.

Although the HTML code below may appear on two lines, it should be written with no breaks or spaces.

Type
HTML Code
Result
Text <!--#echo var="URL_COUNT" --> 15891
Graphical <IMG SRC="/cgi-bin/count" ALT="">
Different Styles <IMG SRC="/cgi-bin/count?face=stylename"> Varies based on style

We have compiled a list of the available styles for your browsing! Notes:

  1. To include a default date and text counter, you may include the following in any html file:
    • <!--#include virtual="/includes/lastmod.html"-->

    It will display:

      Document Last Modified: Sunday, 20-Jan-2008 18:29:26 CST
      Document URL: http://www.rollanet.org:80/infocenter/counters/index.html
      Times Accessed: 15891 since counter was last reset

  2. If you have a virtual domain with us, you can copy and paste the html from this file into each of your html documents or you can create your own include file like in note #1 above.
