Configure Outlook 97 Email

Before you configure your email program, you should have already created a dial-up connection. If you haven't done this, return to the Configuration page and click on the appropriate link for assistance in creating the dial-up connection.

1. Open Outlook 97. Click Tools on the menu bar, and select Services.

2. In the window which opens, click on the Services tab. If Internet Email appears in the list of services, highlight (select by clicking) Internet email. Click the Properties button. Go to step 4.

If Internet email does not appear, continue with step 3.

3. Click the Add button. In the Add Service to Profile window, highlight Internet email. Click OK.

4. In the Mail Account Properties window, select the General tab. In the Mail Account box, type a name for your mailbox (this can be anything you want, but we recommend you put your RollaNet userid here - this will help you identify the account if you have multiple email addresses). In the Name box, type your full name, or any name you would like displayed to identify you as the sender. In the Email Address box, type your email address (youruserid@rollanet.org) with no spaces and no capital letters.

5. Select the Servers tab. In the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) box, type smtp.rollanet.org. Make sure there are no spaces (including at the very beginning of the box; it will be very hard to detect. If in doubt, backspace till you reach the very beginning of the box and then type the information) and no capital letters. In the Incoming Mail (POP3) box, type pop.rollanet.org. For Login Information, select Logon using: and in the Account Name box, type your RollaNet userid (do not include the @rollanet.org part of your email address with no spaces or capital letters. In the Password box, type your RollaNet password (this should also be lower case and should include no spaces). Make sure the button beside Log On Using Secure Password Authentication is NOT selected.

6. Select the Connection tab. For Connection, select I use a modem to access my email. For Use the following Dial-Up Networking connection, select your RollaNet connection, which you should have set up already. If you followed our instructions for creating your dial-up connection you will the see the name "RollaNet" in the Dial-Up Networking connection field. Click the OK button.

7. If you have added the Internet Mail service, you will be prompted to restart Outlook. Exit and restart Outlook if necessary.

If Outlook 97 is properly configured you should now be able to send and receive email successfully.
