Connection FAQ - Page 1 Page 2 Page 3 Why am I disconnected every 20 min? Both Windows Dial-up Networking (DUN) and RollaNet have a 20 minute inactivity time out. To change the Windows Dun setting, double-click on My Computer, then double-click on the Dial-up Networking folder. Right click on your RollaNet dial-up connection icon, and select Properties. In the new window that pops up, press the Configure button. Disable (uncheck) the setting for Disconnect a call if idle for more than xx minutes. You cannot change the RollaNet 20 minute inactivity time-out. This time-out is in effect so that all members have equal access to our dial-up lines. If you are reading a web page or reading/writing email, you are not sending information back and forth, which would keep the connection alive. One way around this is to keep your email program open and set it to check mail more frequently than every 20 minutes, so that information goes back and forth, keeping the inactivity timeout from kicking in. We ask that you do not do this while your computer is on but unattended. Not only will this tie up a line that is not in use, but you will be wasting some of the 10 hours a day you are permitted to stay online. Why am I disconnected after 4 hours of being online? After 4 hours for a single uninterruped connection (1 hour for public customers) your connection is dropped by RollaNet whether there is activity or not. This is to permit all members to have equal access to the dial-up lines. You may redial immediately after the cutoff, until you have used 10 hours per day. After you have used 10 hours of connect time in one day, you will not be able to logon again until after midnight. Why do I get disconnected when I'm downloading software? If you are downloading and not otherwise using your connection (checking email, surfing the web), the communication occurring is only one-way and may be interpreted as inactivity. Try having your email program check for mail more often than every 20 minutes, or click on a link occasionally to keep the connection active. Why do I get disconnected immediately after sending/receiving email? Many email programs (including Outlook and Outlook Express) have settings that allow you to select whether or not you want your modem to hang up after sending/receiving email. Look in the "tools" or "options" settings of your email program to make sure this feature is turned off.
