Costing Approach to Equipment Selection Problem for Flexible Manufacturing
Systems - Abstract: The equipment selection problem is essential
in manufacturing today. It typically involves the selection of a set of
equipment to be used in production based on technical and economical criteria.
This paper will focus on an activity-based costing approach to the equipment
selection problem for flexible manufacturing systems. The technique developed
in this paper will help decision-makers select the appropriate set of equipment
or machines to be used in the system based on the objective to minimize
total operating cost subject to the availability of machines in the system.
